Monique Lhuillier sent a dress-heavy 44-look collection down the runway on Saturday night which featured some sportswear, and was concentrated in brights like bubblegum pink, yellow and cyan with leather and lace accents.
"With women more into fitness and healthy lifestyles, I compliment their physique using intricate seaming to outline the body," she explained. The collection began with some sleek silhouettes and then introduced some more vamp-y styles that screamed 1950s Barbie "Solo in the Spotlight", then worked into contemporary patterns and embellishments. "Evening is all about sexy silhouettes, open backs, cut-outs with lace insets, and graphic prints infused with cadmium yellow and cobalt blue." The line definitely spoke to those who desire sex-appeal or frequent the limelight (be it the red carpet or the pageant stage).
Miss America, Jr. National Teenager, Michelle Robichaud is originally from New Hampshire (enthusiastically chiming in, "It's only a four and a half hour drive!") and was her first show of her first fashion week. She and her handler-for-the-day, Brigitte Segura (who were in awe of anything coming down the runway featuring glitter) were sitting beside us for the show, so we got a couple comments from the pageant queen before the show got started.
On fashion week: "I tend to come down here a lot, but I've never really been to fashion week. It's very different and I'm really loving it."
Why she chose Monique Lhuillier: "Because Brigitte brought me here to show me the show. I get to see everything that goes on. And, she's letting me see my very first show here!"
On gown choices: "I'm very interested in wearing some of [Monique's] gowns. They are very beautiful."
