This weekend we posted a review of the Project Runway finale collections which was quite harsh. In it, we questioned how much time the designers were given for their final collections and decoy collections—and if timing constraints might have played a part in such a disappointing showing.
Well, we dug a little deeper, and discussed it with designers at the HP Project Runway Reunion Party last night (more on that coming soon...). We learned that while cast members from some previous seasons were given as much as seven months to put together their final collections, this year's group had less than two months.
Obviously there were budgetary concerns and production constraints that had to be taken into consideration—particularly since two series, Project Runway and Project Runway All Stars were being filmed at the same time, in the same space. But we urge the producers to give future seasons' designers more time for their final collections. Viewers want to be impressed and excited by the finale. By putting such strict time constraints on the designers, you hurt your brand and you hurt theirs.
