Yesterday, we heard from a whole lot of you about how Target has held—and in some cases threatened to cancel or have already canceled—your hard-won Missoni for Target online orders. Remember, these are orders that were placed in the face of great challenges—a constantly crashing website, a barely functional mobile site, and a customer service team who refused to take orders over the phone.
After we posted our original story, we heard from so many more readers—all of whom are in the same delayed or already-canceled boat—in the comments section and in our inbox. Check out some of the horror stories, after the jump.
After receiving Target's initial email, which instructed customers to log on and approve their shipping delays, most people tried to log in, but weren't able to access their accounts on the Target website. One reader writes in:
Yes, this is a nightmare. The 6 a.m. 9/13 online order actually took an hour to load. Then Target continuously crashed and took my system down with it. I finally placed two separate orders, unable to maintain the connection and keep as one order. Some tech-savvy readers tried the Target site in a variety of web browsers, but found that the Target site wouldn't work in Chrome—which is annoying and weird because on September 13th, Chrome was the browser Target recommended to use with its mobile site. However, I have now received an email advising me of the delay and if I do not update my "accepting" the delay, my order will be cancelled. Well I aggressively tried to adjust the order and accept the delay, but their web site is not working. It locks up, drops the connections and I remained without updating my order. So I called customer service to have them adjust the order and accept , but the representative could NOT do it either. Agh!!!! FRUSTRATION....MY ORDER IS IN TARGET LIMBO.
Target threatened to cancel my order—was able to extend it by trying a few browsers. The account section of their site didn't work in Chrome. Not content with sending customers one disappointing email full of bad and inactionable news, Target sent some customers three:
Your article re: delayed/cancelled orders 100% accurate! I managed to get an order in at approx 5:45am on Sept 13th. Checked out, received email confirmation and was charged. Since then, I have received 3 emails. Identical to what you posted. And it doesn't matter how much money you spent—one reader writes that she ordered over $1,000 of merchandise, but Target canceled without any explanation:Latest frustration trying to approve future delivery etc. It gives you an error code stating you are not authorized! I checked off the approve box but it won't go through.
I'm over it. Target SUCKS.
I saw your article on the problems with the Missoni for Target collection. I stayed up all night to place orders on the 13th (I live in Australia). I managed to place two orders totaling $1,000. On the 15th, I got the following message, for both of my orders: "There was a problem your order #[Redacted] placed on 09/13/2011. As a result, we had to cancel it. Still want the items you ordered? We can help. Just contact us. Thanks for shopping at Target. Team Target."And even smaller-scale orders of two items are being delayed and possibly canceled because their site isn't working properly:What terrible customer service—I can't believe they didn't even explain why my orders were cancelled!
I only managed to order 2 small items (scarves) and I got an email from Target that the other one is delayed or may be cancelled. I tried approving the new date but the link says that I don't have the authority to approve the new date. What the... This is sooo frustrating. If they cancel my order, fine. Will never do this again if they offer too much hassle. Some customers are even canceling their own orders out of frustration with Target.
I was able to log onto Target.com and my order processed at 10:13 in the am on 9/13. Yesterday (9/15) I called Target.com as my order hadn’t shipped or anything and it was express and actually showed a delivery date of 9/14.One customer who ordered the adorable zig-zag flats took the eBay issue up with customer service directly:The person on the end attempted to ‘assure me’ that I would get my order—but she did not know when. This morning I had the exact email you posted with the earliest ship date listed as 10/18, so I cancelled the whole thing. I was fortunate that I actually got most of the pieces I wanted Tuesday morning in my local store despite the chaos, so I had just ordered a dress and cardigan I had missed out on. So I went to eBay, found the cheapest buy-it-now listings for the pieces I missed, and bought them. Now it’s over, although I would have rather not given money to the ebay sellers who cornered the whole darn market to start with.
I got an email about a delay on one of my items. If they are unable to ship and actually end up canceling that item from my order, I would appreciate it if they go on eBay and buy back that exact item that I thought I had purchased. The item was the Women's Zig Zag flats in a size 11 and there are 152 OF THAT EXACT ITEM IN THAT EXACT SIZE ON EBAY!And basically everyone phoning in to speak with customer service representatives are getting the feeling that no one over at Target HQ knows what's going on. At all.
I got on the site at 3:30 am pacific time and ordered 9 items. Thursday morning the 15th I was notified that my items wouldn't ship til 9/27. Thursday afternoon I was notified that my order was cancelled. I called customer service and they told me I did nothing wrong with my order. I asked if the problem was the unanticipated demand for Missoni. They said yes. I said why was my order cancelled when it was one of the earliest orders placed? I also said that I expected Target to give me a gift card so I could go buy these items on eBay. She said that wouldn't happen.Got any more horror stories from shopping Missoni for Target? Bring it on.I got escalated to a supervisor and again asked why they didn't freeze all shipments and use FIFO for the orders. She said that she had no control over shipping but they would be reviewing all of our issues over the next week and try to fill them or come up with another solution.
Really? How can they fill them? It is sold out. Maybe Target decided they wanted to keep some of the product so they could encourage shoppers to come back in to the store. I expect a gift card from Target. Customer Service also said that they would notify me next week with a resolution.
