Garance Doré's Summer Getaway: Horseback Riding, Surfing, Organic Food—All Within Driving Distance

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's the last official Summer Friday of 2011 and we're heading out a little early today to enjoy the long weekend. We'll leave you with the final installment of our summer travel feature, where we've taken you along on vacation all season long with fabulous industry insiders. So come with us one last time as we take a little breather and whisk you away to a faraway (okay, not so far away) locale.

Photographer, fashion illustrator, blogger, and friend-of-Racked Garance Doré leads a jet-set lifestyle most of the year—follow her blog and you'll find her in Paris one week, in Sydney the next, then back home in New York with her man before jetting off to another exotic locale on another fabulous assignment. We caught up with Doré to find out what she's been up to this summer—her answer, surprisingly, hit close to home.

Garance: This is me in Montauk, at the "beach on the lake" at the Crows Nest. This summer we decided to avoid flying and so every free moment we've had, we've spent in Montauk. It's relatively close to New York, the nature is pretty wild, you can go horseback riding, surfing... but you can also do nothing, there is no pressure. I also love that there are so many good restaurants for such a little place—Crows Nest is delicious, but there is also Ruschmeyers and the Surf Lodge, with some great and organic food. The Crows Nest Kale salad was our summer favorite! We're going this weekend for Labor Day, it will be our last time because after that fashion week takes away summer with her. I already miss it.
