Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We've been combing all the runway and backstage photos from Milan Fashion Week, now in full swing, and we're noticing that the makeup trends there for spring 2012 are pretty much the polar opposite of what we saw backstage at New York fashion week. In New York, the models all wore clean faces, heavy on the fluttery eyelashes, and a nude or pink lip (in varying degrees of pinkness). In Milan it seems it's all about the super-duper smoky eye and not much else. We feel like we're being torn in two different directions! What will we do in the spring! We are being melodramatic!

In other news, here's a photo of a model reading an actual book backstage at the spring Iceberg show. What's she reading? We've got a super-close-up photo after the jump. Click on through.

Why, she's reading a book about Che Guevara, of course. Click photo to enlarge for a more life-size effect:
