Super-stylist and Lady Gaga collaborator Nicola Formichetti undertook his second season as creative head of revived fashion house Mugler with a mood board based around "the idea of stream of consciousness and abstraction," according to notes from last night's spring 2012 show.
"Taking as a starting point the notion of the desert and its fluidity, the collection traverses such diverse influences as Georgia O'Keeffe and her Ghost Ranch, the films 'Dune' and 'Zabriskie Point,' Grecia drapery and ceremony as well as deconstructed memories of a Mugler past."
Check out the gallery, above, of looks from the show and you'll see that these inspirations are represented, quite obviously and literally, in the collection.
"We are essentially deconstructing a remembered history of Mugler rather than a 'real' archival one," said Formichetti. "It is about remember rather than studying."
Once again Lady Gaga served as musical director at the show. The soundtrack featured a remix of "Black Jesus" and the show premiered an exclusive remix Gaga video—check out the snaps from the premiere, above.
One of the funniest parts of the show notes is when Formichetti talks about how Gaga's spirit pervades the mood of this Mugler collection.
"In the film and the soundtrack she appears as a sort of ghost or Sybil who speaks in that stream of consciousness way: ‘Amen Fashion’, ‘Jesus is the new black’, ‘Do not anger Mugler woman, she will eat you!’ She could also be Big Sister as opposed to Big Brother!" Formichetti says.
So, well, there you have it. Do not anger the Mugler woman, she will eat you.
