When Mad Men became TV's It Show, fashion followed, with pencil skirts and shift dresses dominating the runways (and J.Crew). Now, addictive British series Downton Abbey is inspiring a new generation of women to invest in lacy nightwear. The London-based lingerie company Lucile reports that their sales have soared as women have started buying the kinds of nightgowns they see on Ladies Mary, Edith, and Sybil Crawley. Oh, and it helps that the brand got a shoutout on the show.
Like Downton, Lucile started in the 1920s. Among their biggest hits are this Indiscretions gown (which is currently sold out) and a silk kimono which has a mile-long waiting list. Might we suggest this gold silk chemise instead? It's perfect for lounging around the house, drinking cocktails, and trying to bootleg the third season of Downton.
