Brad Pitt and His Searching Eyes Fail to Solve the Universe's Mysteries for Chanel No. 5

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

In Brad Pitt's teaser videos for Chanel No. 5 fragrance, his voiceover asked some heady questions. Now Chanel has released the actual commercial after its four month build-up and, sadly, it doesn't solve all the universe's mysteries. Instead his shifty eyes do all the talking: "Where's the mystery?" "I'll find it with my eyes" "Where are you going?" "Seriously guys, I'm still looking."

What he actually says, however, is more like a dramatic reading of the two or three fortune cookies that Chanel's copywriters ate the other day:

It's not a journey. Every journey ends. We go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear. Dreams take over. But wherever I go, there you are: My luck. My Fate. My Fortune. Chanel No.5, Inevitable.

Let's all take a moment to enjoy a long haired Brad Pitt look super serious after the jump.
