Today, InStyle magazine announced that designer Rebecca Minkoff would be joining their staff as a contributing editor. That is a fancy way of saying that she'll be writing a style advice column once a month for the next six months. But we have some questions about this.
1. Why that title?
Plenty of other magazines have guest columnists or part-time contributors, but most of them don't get such lofty titles. Writing one short column once a month is not a major time commitment. Tory Burch, who also joined the InStyle team this year, was just identified as a "monthly advice columnist." Ditto actress Rachel Bilson, who is also ID'd as a columnist. Will Minkoff be going above and beyond?
2. Is a book deal inevitable?
Style bibles are a big deal in publishing. Stacy London has one. Nina Garcia and Tim Gunn each have one. Is this just a way for Minkoff to get some rehearsal time before landing a (huge, we're sure) book advance?
3. Will we start seeing a lot more Rebecca Minkoff clothes and accessories in the magazine?
Hey, who doesn't love synergy? Even if Minkoff doesn't just skip a step and recommend her own clothes, does this mean that suddenly things with her name on them will appear elsewhere in the magazine or on their website?
