Hedi Slimane didn't take lightly to Cathy Horyn's criticism of his debut collection at Saint Laurent. To refresh, she wrote that it "lacked a new fashion spirit" and added, "even the colors seemed flat." Oh, and she also made sure to mention that she wasn't invited to the show, saying that Slimane had "objected bitterly" to a review she wrote in 2004.
Yesterday, Slimane took to his Twitter account to strike back. His lengthy rip on the New York Times critic was titled, "My Own Times," where he declares: "Miss Horyn is a schoolyard bully and also a bit of a stand-up comedian." He continues: "Her agenda is seriously thick and perfectly predictable. She is a woman on a mission, and this season she is on fire."
However, Horyn isn't the only critic who's given Slimane guff over a lack of an invite. German InStyle editor Annette Weber didn't get one either, to which she told the Daily Front Row: "The French don't like the Germans. It's heritage that they don't like us. We look ugly, in their opinion—we look fat and not stylish."
Fashionista also points out that Business of Fashion's Imran Ahmed didn't get invited either, because the brand's PR team "didn't approve of BoF's 'tone of voice' when writing about Yves Saint Laurent." Instead, he snuck in, and wrote a doozy of an article detailing the Saint Laurent PR hoopla that started weeks ago. The title? "A Wake-Up Call for YSL's PR Team."
Update: Horyn told WWD that Slimane's attack was "just silly nonsense." The end?
