Mamie Gummer is an actress. She's also the daughter of an actress (Meryl "The Iron Lady" Streep) and the wife of an actor (Benjamin Walker). But now, she's getting serious cred in the fashion world, as marked by a New York Times Style section profile. Gummer makes no secret of loving fashion, but she also pleads innocence on the "socialite" front and claims she's only attended two fashion shows in her life. Here are a few of the best fashion shoutouts from her Times profile:
1. She admitted taking money from Coach.
And in June she alighted on the High Line at a celebrity-seeded fund-raiser for the park, underwritten by Coach. She was paid to attend, Ms. Gummer said unabashedly: "Really, I wanted some rent money." (A spokesman for Coach declined to comment.)
Hey, if someone wanted to pay us money to go to a party, we'd probably say yes too.
2. She's friends with Zac Posen.
Love the way the Times manages to sneak this information in:
Flash-forward several decades to find Ms. Gummer arriving at the NoMad for her photo shoot, her skin buffed to an understated glow, her Champagne-colored hair cascading past her shoulders, her freshness enhanced by a skinny peacock-blue tank dress designed by Zac Posen, a friend.
3. She loves indie labels.
Gummer says that she loves Creatures of the Wind, Acne, and MM6. Of the MM6 show, she says, "I like the simplicity."
4. She got dissed by Alexander Wang.
Despite Gummer snagging a plum seat at Altuzarra, his BFF Wang didn't return the favor.
It was surprising then, when asked if Ms. Gummer could sit in the front row of his fashion show last month, Mr. Wang said no. "We don't feel like there's enough of an already established relationship between her and the brand," his publicist, Leslie Rubisch, wrote in an e-mail. Translation: she projects the wrong image.
Next up for Gummer: her very own CW show, Emily Owens MD. Can she be stylish while also rocking a lab coat?
