Hashtag Woes

Deborah Needleman has been at T Magazine all of one week and has already spawned outrage and an internet meme. Over the weekend, she tweeted, "The sexy (sorry, feminists), smart, sassy Katie Roiphe live on stage @nypl on Wednesday night" spurring Anna Holmes, former editor of Jezebel, and Irin Carmon of Salon to launch the #sorryfeminists hashtag. What exactly Needleman was saying about feminism is still unclear, as is what tweeters are trying to call her out on, but she's defending her innocence via the same hashtag with, "Hello twitterers in knicker twist: JOKE!!" It seems that internet jokes, per usual, are in the eye of maybe feminist beholder. [The Cut]
