As the end of the year approaches, we're checking in with our most fashion-savvy friends to hear their thoughts on the best and worst of 2012, as well as their predictions for 2013. So far we've covered Cynthia Rowley, Of a Kind and Moda Operandi co-founder Áslaug Magnúsdóttir. Now, we're checking in with Tracy Reese, who has had a banner year thanks to a little help from a certain Michelle Obama. Below, she gives her take on the year behind us and what to expect from the one ahead.
What were your favorite trends of 2012?
So many beautiful trends to choose from, but the one that stood out to me the most was brocade. The colors are so rich and deep and perfect for winter.
What was your personal favorite purchase of 2012?
I purchased a pair of red Valentino pumps that I wear with everything. They have this effect where they can immediately spice up any outfit!
Any breakout style stars this year?
Hailee Steinfeld has so much pizzazz and style for a 16 year old. She carries herself with such grace and confidence.
Favorite fashion video of the year?
"Shit Fashion Girls Say". I think it's hilarious how spot-on it is.
Aside from your own, what was the e-commerce site you shopped the most in 2012?
Amazon.com! You can find anything you need! And they have fashion, too!!
What national chain do you make a point to visit in all cities you travel to?
I always like to stop into William Sonoma. They always have the coolest gadgets for the kitchen and the store smells amazing, no matter what time of year.
What was your favorite new beauty product or beauty collaboration of the year?
I may be slightly biased, but I love the newest Tracy Reese and Clinique collaboration.
What was the craziest thing that happened in fashion in 2012?
How the press created a rivalry between Hedi Silmane and Raf Simons.
What's your biggest shopping regret of 2012?
I bought a Ninja blender. I was slightly overzealous with this purchase.
Describe 2012 in fashion in one word.
Bold.
Style advice for 2013.
I saw so many stunning pieces on the 2013 runways and women shouldn't shy away from them. As always, wear your clothing with confidence and you will look great.
