As the end of the year approaches, we're checking in with our most fashion-savvy friends to hear their thoughts on the best and worst of 2012, as well as their predictions for 2013. We've already spoken with the girls from Of a Kind and Moda Operandi Co-Founder Áslaug Magnúsdóttir. Today, we're checking in with Cynthia Rowley, one of favorite designers, as well as the genius behind the year's best Christmas gift: the flask bangle. Below, she gives her take on 2012.
What was the craziest thing that happened in fashion this year?
The crazier the better! We should all follow Marc Jacobs' daring Met statement; too many uptight traditional editors are taking all the fun out of fashion.
Favorite new beauty product or beauty collaboration of the year?
Nars' Andy Warhol-inspired collection is fantastic! It's a new way of looking (and using) art.
Aside from your own, what was the e-commerce site you shopped the most in 2012?
Exhibitiona.com, Art.sy, Artinfo.com. I have a huge collection of my own, so I don't buy a lot of clothes on line. I've started buying more art on line and it's also inspiring to see new work.
What national chain do you make a point to visit in all cities you travel to?
Why would you visit a place while traveling if you have it in your own backyard?! Maybe Starbucks?!?
Favorite fashion video of the year?
Any Red Bucket film!
Favorite new website?
Goop.com. Smart, thoughtful, fun, personal, fresh, and stylish for every part of your life.
What were your favorite trends of 2012?
Trends are not relevant anymore.
What were your least favorite trends of 2012?
What was your personal favorite purchase of 2012?
A Lucien Smith rain painting.
What's your biggest shopping regret of 2012?
Not buying a Louis Eisner slide painting.
Describe 2012 in fashion in one word.
Any breakout style stars this year?
My buddy Lena Dunham and Zosia Mamet. And the whole cast of Girls.
