Jean Paul Gaultier announced yesterday that his house will launch a lower-priced "streetwear" line for men and women in 2014. The name is yet to be revealed, but WWD reports that the line will take inspiration from Gaultier's own "sartorial" style. That doesn't really tell us much about what it will look like, but everyone is obviously hoping corsets will be involved.
It will be the designer's fourth diffusion line, as he previously launched Junior Gaultier in 1988; Gaultier Jeans in 1992, and Gaultier Puissance 2 back in his heyday. If, like us, you were hoping this might be an attempt to reinvigorate the French designers' reputation in America (a la Missoni's lower-priced capsule for Target), don't get too excited, however. The company says they expect Italy and Asia to make up the majority of sales.
