Emerald has bumped both (the very wearable but also sort of blah) Monaco Blue and Dusk Blue from the top two spots of Pantone's most popular colors of Spring 2013 in a Color of the Year coup—and we have Angelina Jolie to thank for that. Allow a WWD infograph to explain the psychology of a color trend:
"It took a few years but the 115-emerald green earrings Angelina Jolie wore to the Academy Awards seem to have had a hand in this spring's color palette. [Pantone Color Institutes's top dog, Leatrice Eiseman explains] 'There is no question that what the stars wear creeps into people's consciousness. It gets embedded in your mind. You might see another photo of that same color and it has a positive effect. It builds up your confidence in that color.'"And boom: The 2013 Color of the Year was born. In case you're looking to get a head start, Pantone has graciously offered some emerald things to buy here.
