Each season Catherine Malandrino's Fashion Week presentation ends up being one of our favorites—her designs are always luxe and original. Last summer, however, the designer's company ran into financial difficulties and subsequently skipped their September presentation. We feared the end was near, but fortunately designer Elie Tahari played fashion Superman and swooped in to save the day—financially speaking. We were thrilled to hear the news, but a little concerned about how this new partnership might affect the line's designs.
But the moment we walked into the brand's Fall 2012 Presentation yesterday we gave a big sigh of relief. The new Catherine Malandrino Black Label collection, dubbed "La Feline," is breathtaking, and there are many pieces we wish we had both the figure and wallet for. Particularly, the slim cut cocktail dresses slashed with skin revealing crystal-embedded mesh, the corseted down coat and all the beautiful jewel-tone garments. We always love when Catherine designs black leather pieces with embroidery and lace-like cut outs, and La Feline includes a few—the standout being a black leather motorcycle-type jacket with green detailing.
This collection includes significantly less fur than the one from a year ago (although the guests seemed to be wearing significantly more), but the ones we saw were in Crayola greens and blues, along with the more expected black.
Spotted in the crowd was Catherine Malandrino holding court with Gossip Girl and Fashion Week regular Kelly Rutherford, and brand savior, Elie Tahari. Everyone seemed in good spirits.
Welcome back to Fashion Week Catherine Malandrino. Long may your collections show!
