News of Manolo Blahnik's capsule of elegant pumps for J.Crew, which J.Crew leaked at their New York Fashion Week presentation on Valentine's Day, was one of the biggest stories to come out of NYFW. Only, it turns out, Blahnik had no idea it was happening.
"I have been approached so many times to do [a High Street collaboration], but I don't want to work for a big company where I'll have to have lots of meetings where I'm told what I can and can't do," the shoe Maven told Vogue UK. "My niece, Kristina, handles that sort of thing for me—it's just not for me. I was recently contacted by J Crew to do something with them, so I sent them over 45 pairs of shoes, and they announced we were doing a collaboration. I had no idea about it!" Maybe J.Crew was just trying to spare him the pain of meetings. According to Footwear News, a rep from Manolo Blahnik USA said the collaboration was "months in the making and began when J.Crew President Jenna Lyons 'fell in love' with Blahnik’s popular BB style." Details on the capsule, including the release date, are still fuzzy, but according to WWD, the collection will be available online and in select J.Crew stores under the Blahnik name, for Blahnik prices. Expect to pay in the $600 range for a pair.
