Though she doesn't come right out and say that the fashion industry is going to hell in a handbasket, Suzy Menkes doesn't mince words in her most recent op-ed, either. Titled "We Are All Responsible for This Mess" and repeatedly referring to the "delicate" nature of designers, the piece addresses the most recent round of design house musical chairs, kicked off this season with Raf Simons' departure from Jil Sander and currently gathering momentum with yesterday's announcement that Stefano Pilati is leaving Yves Saint Laurent. Says Menkes, "I remind myself that this is not a game of chess. And that real people — especially sensitive designers — deserve not to be treated as pawns in someone else’s game."
