Lauren Bush Lauren was an undergrad at Princeton (yes, that Princeton) when she became a student spokesperson for their World Food Program (WFP). Moved by the hunger she saw in the countries she visited, she launched FEED in 2006 as a line of anti-It bags that raise money and awareness for the WFP's School Feeding Program.
Since then, FEED's original burlap tote has expanded to a collection of more than 25 bags plus fun accessories, and the cause has partnered with heavy hitting organizations like Unicef and brands like Clarins along the way. Their latest partnership is with Racked 38 member Beauty Bar: For every new customer referred to Beauty Bar, they'll donate $5 to the FEED Foundation. We jumped at the chance to ask Lauren about the collaboration (and get a couple beauty tips while we were at it). Check out our interview below:
Racked: How have FEED bags and accessories stayed relevant in an industry known for turning everything on its head every six months?
Lauren Bush Lauren: I believe FEED bags and accessories have stayed relevant because of the social mission attached to our products. For us, it is not about creating the trendy bag of the season, but creating something that is quality and eco-friendly while supporting an important cause through our sales. Giving back and helping others is always in style!
R: Is this FEED's first foray into beauty?
LBL: FEED has been fortunate to work with great beauty companies on the retail front like Bobbi Brown and now Clarins. Now Beauty Bar is partnering with the FEED Foundation to raise money for our cause through their referral program. FEED's customer is primarily women in their 20s and 30s, so it makes sense that a FEED fan would also be a fan of beauty products!
R: What appealed to you about partnering with Beauty Bar?
LBL: Beauty Bar is such a well-curated site of the best beauty products! They carry such wonderful, premium beauty brands, and it makes it easy for a contemporary shopper to get the best in beauty without having to contend with the crowds at beauty counters in department stores. Beauty Bar is also very philanthropic, so we were thrilled when they approached us about partnering with the FEED Foundation to raise money to fight world hunger.
R: You're constantly traveling around the world in support of FEED. Any carry-on beauty secrets that aren't going to land us in hot water with airport security?
LBL: Yes, that airport security maximum volume is always a tricky one when it comes to bringing along your essential beauty favorites while traveling. I am big on staying moisturized while traveling, so I always travel with my Clarins Moisture-Rich Body lotion (small size). And for potential sun protection, depending on where I am going, I use Clarins New UV Plus HP SPF 40 Day Screen. And a bronzer compact upon arrival, so you always arrive looking glowy and refreshed, even if you are not.
R: What's your go-to beauty regimen?
LBL: My beauty regimen includes washing and moisturizing my face day and night. I am somewhat manic about this part. Then comes a bit of cover-up on certain areas of my face, like under eye, followed with a bit of powder, some bronzer, and some light mascara. The fresher the better.
R: Any chance of a FEED beauty line down the road?
LBL: Interesting idea?I will have to give that some thought! :)
