Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Doesn't seem like much of a competition when you put it like that, does it? But let's take a closer look at the two biggest American glossies so far this year, and see if we can determine which one is actually doing the most interesting covers. In one corner, Vogue with Maryl Streep in January (their oldest cover girl to date); Taylor Swift (with new, Anna Wintour-approved bangs) in February; Adele and a mile of cleavage in March; and now 42-year-old Jennifer Lopez for their April "shape" issue.
In the other corner, Elle with leggy blond Katherine Heigl in January, bubbly blond Reese Witherspoon in February; sporty blond Blake Lively in March; and naked blond Jessica Simpson in April.
Hm. We know who gets our vote.
