Shop Fashion Star Episode 3: All the Winning Looks From Tonight's Episode

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Tonight we watched Fashion Star from the Hotel Gansevoort in New York—along with actual Fashion Stars Sarah Parrott, Kara Laricks, Nzimiro Oputa, and Orly Shani. There was champagne, there were cheesecake pops, there was a huge bag of candy from the good people at Daily Candy, there was... whoever those guys were who did that intro song. Really what we're trying to say here is we're lucky we can even get it together enough to make this post happen at all tonight.

But here we go. So this week's branding exercise is summer trends. From the first group, Orly Shani's color-blocked sheath. Jessica Simpson wants to order it in all three colors. Macy's and Saks bid it out: "The acid sherbet colors, the details on the pocket, this is absolutely a Saks kind of dress." Saks wins at $120K. Since tonight we're sitting one foot away from Orly as she watches herself on screen, we ask her how it felt to get the offer. "I was vibrating! But of course, the first week I got so many tweets from people saying, 'Saks, come on, I can't buy that!" So I'm curious to see how it goes." She's referring to the price point here, and, despite what her Twitter followers had to say, her skirt from Episode 1 sold out by 10am the next morning. So, yes, we shall see what happens tonight.

Next, Sarah Parrott's mixed-print maxi dresses gets picked up by H&M for $50K. "It's sexy, it's elegant, and then you put that twist on it with the mesh straps," says buyer Nicole Christie. How does Parrott feel about being picked up by H&M three weeks in a row? "I do feel like it's a good niche," she told us.

Then, Nikki Poulos' jumpsuit: "I love a good jumpsuit, and we think that they're going to be hot for summer," says Caprice Willard from Macy's. And in the same group, Nzimiro Oputa's swim trunks are "a Hamptons party in the pants," according to Jessica Simpson. More articulately from the Macy's buyer: "You hit the nail on the head with this combination between this preppy short and this swim trunk."

Ross Bennett also has a winner tonight with his summer shorts. The Macy's buyer: "I just think the printed botton, the floral look, it's a win."

Kara Laricks' tuxedo pants get a big cheer from the live room at the Gansevoort, and the buyers agree. Saks picks them up for $50K. "I like the modern take on the classic tuxedo pant," says Terron Schaefer. Why pants for summer, we asked her? "Pants are a staple in my wardrobe, so the opportunity to create the perfect pair of pants was a dream come true." She also told us that those pants actually have removable belt loops, and a removable tie detail.

And that's it! Stay tuned for our full recap tomorrow, and in the meantime, peep the looks in the gallery above, complete with pricing and shopping links. Goodnight, all, and happy shopping.

Update: March 28, 7:45 am:
Sarah Parrott's dress and Nzimiro Oputa's swim trunks are both sold out online at H&M. Ross Bennett's satin shorts are still available in all three sizes and colors at Macy's, as is Nikki Poulos' jumpsuit.
