With a little luck, Jean-Michel Cazabat's flamboyant heels will be shoppable right from your computer by this summer. We spoke with the French-born, New York-based designer at his NYC flagship last night, and he told us that his aims are global because, well, that's how the world of fashion is these days:
Before you could say the customer of uptown is different than the customer of downtown. Today it's not true. Before you could say the customer of LA is different than the customer of New York. Today it's not true. Before you could say that the customer of America and the customer of Hong Kong and the customer of Italy are different. Today it's not true. I mean, everybody is so educated in style and fashion, to me there is no difference.
Considering the delays between the announced opening date of Cazabat's only US boutique (March) and the actual opening date (October), we're preparing ourselves for the launch to be pushed back. The designer, however, is hopeful: "I hope I can say [a site will be ready] for the next collection, so in June or July. I don't know if they can see my fingers crossed, but they are." Ours too, Jean-Michel. Ours too.
