What Are Our Beloved Beauty Brands of the '90s Up to Now?

Once upon a time, body glitter was a totally acceptable thing to buy and your biggest beauty faux pax was to break a Lee Press-on Nail. It was the '90s, and to tell you how much of our hard-earned babysitting dollars were spent on Wet 'N' Wild nail polish would be impossible, and to try and remember all the crap we shoved in our Caboodles would as laborious as chemistry homework. So what's happened to all those brands from our teenage years that reigned supreme? We've decided to give them the attention they deserve, in this edition of Where Are They Now: Beauty Brands of the '90s.

Caboodles: First up, the beloved sleepover must-have, Caboodles. They are happily still around, but the selection on the company's product page is pretty depressing. Where are the pink and purple combos? How come none of these are monogrammed? And by monogrammed, we mean, why has no one doodled their name on them with one of those silver gel markers? If you're looking for the Caboodles you used to know and love, check out a few of these that are currently on Etsy.


Bonne Bell's current "Get the Look" page

Bonne Belle: Thankfully, Bonne Bell is still around. They have a website and a Facebook page, though their Twitter doesn't exactly work. (Hey—two out of three.) The line is sold at Walmart, but that appears to be about it; no matter which state we selected in the drop down menu, the only store that came up was Walmart, and it probably would have been more efficient of them to just say that. They're also still solely marketing to fourteen-year-old girls, as the "Get the Look" page reads: "Flirty? Coy? Coquettish? However you say it, you drive guys crazy with your flirty looks and playful attitude! Follow these steps for crush-worthy beauty."


Wet 'n' Wild's current spokesperson, Fergie/span>

Wet 'n' Wild: You can still find Wet 'n' Wild wherever fine beauty products are sold (see: Duane Reade), though an amusement park comes up first when you attempt to Google the brand's name (and that's the most G-rated search result you'll find). One thing Wet 'n' Wild has now that they definitely didn't have in the '90s: Fergie as a spokesperson. We'll let you decide how high on the endorsement level that is.

Lip Smacker: Oh, to be a kid again and have your biggest concern be what flavor of Lip Smacker you were going to buy with your allowance next. Currently, the brand's website is plenty full of fun, pre-teen things, like some confusing online games, quizzes(!), and—omgGirl Scout cookie-flavored lip balms. If you'd rather take a trip down memory lane, on the East Coast alone there are 24 locations that stock the Smackers, including Walgreens, Target, CVS, and more.

Sun-In: Sun-In was acquired by parent company, Chattem, back in 1974, but that doesn't mean we weren't spritzing it in our hair throughout the better part of the '90s. Despite the fact that it sort of turned everybody's hair orange (except the girls in the commercials), a trip to the beach was hardly complete without it. Today, the brand is still alive and well: The "Tropical Breeze" or "Lemon Fresh" scent are currently sold at Wal-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid, and a few places we've personally never heard of, like Publix and Meijer. The model on the packaging, though, looks pretty dated.


Manic Panic hair color

Manic Panic: Now that dip-dyed hair is a pretty huge trend, we're kind of wishing we had bought some stock in Manic Panic hair-dye when the iron was hot. Which was back when the brand's tubes of dye arrived at Hot Topic and other quasi-counterculture mall destinations. Currently, you can stock up on every color under the sun at their boutique, which is actually nestled inside of their headquarters in Long Island City, Queens. As they put it, "Get your glamour and your glitter and your wig and your wiggle. DIVAS WELCOME!" If you don't want to do all that, you can buy the products on their website.

Bath & Body Works: Nowadays, Bath & Body Works is a reputable mall-beauty destination: they carry skincare products from Wexler, C.O. Bigelow, True Blue Spa, and Aromatherapy. Their scents have also grown up a bit, but there was a time back in the '90s where Cucumber Melon mousse with body shimmer was one of the hottest sellers, and every high school freshman under the sun smelled like either Plumeria, Fresia, or Country Apple. (Plumeria and Country Apple are "Classics" now, and Fresia is, sadly, long gone.)
