Comedy writer Bonnie Datt once bought a chainmail vest "for clubbing"—a purchase she later came to lament, once she realized that chainmail wasn't particularly slimming. Inspired by this, she now spends her spare time asking famous people to dish about purchases which they initially loved—but ended up regretting, for Buyer's Remorse.

Supermodel Carol Alt has done it all: acted, published books, created skincare and jewelry lines, worked as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice, and of course, appeared on a lot of magazine covers. This summer you can watch Carol in the HBO documentary, About Face: The Supermodels, Then and Now, a discussion of aging and plastic surgery with some of the world's most famous models. When we asked Carol what she's had Buyer's Remorse about, she shared her loathing of a certain fashion item which led to a recent injury.
Racked: Carol, what have you had Buyer's Remorse about?
Carol Alt: You'll have to give me a moment to think about that because I'm pretty impulsive, but I'm not a big spender on stuff.
Racked: Something when you were young, a style thing?
Carol Alt: Oh please, everything I wore as a teenager I regretted wearing. But my father was a fireman so we lived on a budget.—Oh, I would say it has to be platform shoes.
Racked: Any specific pair, or every pair?
Carol Alt: Well, I fell off a pair of platform shoes—that was pretty public. I was coming out of a favorite restaurant, and I hurt my ankle and my wrist and had to go to Sundance the very next day to promote my documentary. And I was flying with my arm against my chest.
Racked: Ohmygod are you okay now?
Carol Alt: I'm okay now, but I just think platforms are silly. As sexy as they are, you can wear a sexy shoe without a platform.
