Now You Can Buy an iPad and Smell Like One Too

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

People love "new car smell." But do they also love "new iPad smell"? The Aussie art collective Greatest Hits sure hopes so. They partnered with fragrance company Air Aroma to create a perfume that smells like a new Apple product. For those who haven't unwrapped a sexy new MacBook recently, that would be "the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China."

Right now, iFragrance isn't for sale—it's part of an art installation in Melbourne. But that leaves us plenty of time to get a jump on creating "New PC laptop" perfume, which is less expensive, and also less cool.
