This Is Actually Happening: H&M's New Store Will Be Called '& Other Stories'

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's official: the Hennes & Mauritz Group will be flouting both internet searchability and general logic to name its new chain "& other stories." (And yes, that ampersand is officially part of the name.) According to Yahoo, an H&M press officer has confirmed rumors that have been circulating since Sweden's daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported an application for copyright protection for the name was requested several months ago.

That's all H&M is confirming for the moment, however. "It is correct that H&M will launch a new chain in 2013 called & other stories, but this is all the available information we have as of today."
