This summer, Laduree's famous pastel macarons are getting a non-nonsense British makeover. The famous pasty maker is creating a special box in honor of the Queen's Jubilee, the official celebration of Queen Elizabeth II's 60th year on the throne. The macrons will be produced in a patriotic red and blue—as close as food dye can get to the colors of the British flag—and will come in a Union Jack-themed box. Queen Elizabeth joins Hello Kitty in macaron history as one of only a few cultural icons to be honored with a limited-edition tribute box.
