This morning, WWD points out that anyone who used to diligently study French Vogue during Carine Roitfeld's reign should have easily been able to guess that the title of her upcoming magazine would be CR. Those, of course, are her initials, and they're also what she used to sign all of her editor's letters with. See—it's was obvious.
Roitfeld disclosed more details about the magazine to WWD, including that it will cost $9.95 an issue, that 50,000 copies will be printed ("with roughly half the distribution in Europe"), and that you might have to be trilingual to fully appreciate it. The story explains: "Although CR is an English publication, Roitfeld said she intends to publish certain articles in the native language of their author, with translations to be found at the back. For example, if filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar were to pen something for her, it would be in Spanish." Her mock up of the publication already includes pieces written in Arabic, Japanese and Russian.
Roitfeld also alludes to the fact that the magazine might possibly include fewer breasts than French Vogue, but confirms that "it will always be edgy. Maybe it will be more mental than physical." Each issue will have its own theme, and the theme of the mock up currently being shown to advertisers is music. The issue contains a never-before-seen portrait of Patti Smith shot by Bruce Weber, as well as a bunch of models portraying characters from "Who are you, Polly Magoo?" And yes, there's sideboob in that spread.
