Comedy writer Bonnie Datt once bought a chainmail vest "for clubbing"—a purchase she later came to lament, once she realized that chainmail wasn't particularly slimming. Inspired by this, she now spends her spare time asking famous people to dish about purchases which they initially loved—but ended up regretting, for Buyer's Remorse.

We are excited to have music legend and philanthropist Nile Rodgers as our Buyer's Remorse interviewee this week. To share just a few of his impressive accomplishments, Nile produced Madonna's Like a Virgin, David Bowie's Let's Dance, The B-52's Love Shack, plus hits for everyone from Diana Ross to Mick Jagger. As a musician, along with his band Chic, Nile co-created and performed many of disco's most beloved classics, including Le Freak and Good Times. We were curious to find out what a man who has toured the world many times over and worked with some of music's biggest stars would have Buyer's Remorse about. It turns out he regrets buying an outfit which he thought was very stylish—initially.
Racked: Can you think of something you've had Buyer's Remorse about?
Nile Rodgers: I'm a smart shopper. Everything I buy I want. There is one thing—I actually loved it at the time. But what happened is it went out of fashion because the shoulder pads were too extreme. It was one of the most expensive suits I've ever bought. And I won't say the designer's name because he's actually my friend and he'll be really upset.
Racked: What color was it?
Nile Rodgers: It was pin striped—very wide wale, and at the time it was amazing looking. But remember in the '80s when the shoulder pads happened? [Nile motions giant shoulder pads] It got so extreme, and because the waist was so slim cut, I wound up having it look ridiculous. So I just look at it in the closet now. The only reason I regret it is because it was so super, super, super expensive—and I only wore it once.
Racked: Well shoulder pads are coming back, so maybe it will resurface.
Nile Rodgers: Are they coming back that much?
Racked: Probably not that much.
