18 Tropical Print Pieces That Will Have You Humming the Hawaii 5-0 Theme Song

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Even if you lived a landlocked life far, far away from a tropical paradise, this summer you can practically be a tropical paradise, what with all the exotic tropical prints designers are into. Go literal with the photo-realist swimsuit from Topshop or a little more abstract with a pair of orchidy skinny jean from the DVF for Current/Elliot collab. Of course, there are also plenty of the classic hibiscus-and-palm prints, just like you remember from Dad's old Hawaiian shirts. But recast as short shift dresses, easy little shorts, or a boxy top like our favorite from Mango, the cheeky, modern vibe of these looks is anything but middle-aged-dude-on-vacation.—Julie Chen
