The First 2014 Costume Institute Exhibition Rumor Hits the Internet, and It's Totally Off the Wall

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We've made it almost a month since the Costume Institute's "Impossible Conversations" opened without the internet offering any future exhibits rumors...until now. Introducing the Michael Jackson-is-the-subject-of-the-2014-Costume-Institute-Gala rumor. Take it with a massive grain of salt, though, because Hint magazine's only sources are unnamed "prognosticators" who are "prognosticating." How mysterious.

That leaves us with tons of questions. Who are these "prognosticators"? Why is the rumor centered around 2014 and not next year's exhibit (shouldn't we be spreading rumors about 2013 at this point)? And, holy shit, what kind of insanity will go down with Joe Jackson at the Gala! Also, if MJ isn't actually 2014's subject, how do we make it happen? Regardless of the answers to these questions, we're pretty excited about the possibilities. Check out the gallery above for a few iconic Michael moments you may or may not be seeing at the Met in 2014, and here's hoping the Met makes good on a rumor.
