She's been called many things, but Anna Wintour might finally have a nickname that has nothing to do with devils or Miuccia Prada: In an article this weekend, the New York Times dubbed Wintour an "Obama bundler", one of those "well-connected and highly motivated wranglers of cash for political candidates." The article indicates exactly what the editor of Vogue means to the Obama campaign, and we bring you the bulleted version because, well, it's Monday.
· Last Thursday, the 50-person dinner she co-hosted with Sarah Jessica Parker at the latter's West Village town house that you had a chance to win tickets to went off without a hitch. At $40,000 a plate, we should hope so. Besides the Obamas, Meryl Streep was there, as was Michael Kors.
· The above plate-o-snacks was steep compared to the mixer she threw in honor of the president in 2010, but her two other fundraisers weren't exactly bargains, either. At her first event, Obama dropped by her home to mingle with guests like Donna Karan and Calvin Klein, who paid up to $30,400 each for the priveledge. Also, for $35,800, important people hung out with the president along with Wintour and Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein late last summer at Mr. Weinstein's home.
· According to an anonymous "close friend" she's not looking to head up any political office, including that rumored London ambassadorship: "She has absolutely no interest in an ambassadorship. None. I can say that definitively."
· However, she is accepting honorary titles. Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker were both named to the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
· Despite her high-fashion image, Wintour is trying (however successfully) not to contribute to the appearance that Michelle and President Obama are out of touch economically. As Anita McBride, who was chief of staff to Laura Bush and an adviser to three Republican White Houses, put it, "Look at Nancy Reagan. She got vilified for having Betsy Bloomingdale as a friend and for wearing Adolfo." So obviously, there's a fine line here.
