Gossip Girl's Kelly Rutherford Thought This Was Sexy—Until She Got It Home

Comedy writer Bonnie Datt once bought a chainmail vest "for clubbing"—a purchase she later came to lament, once she realized that chainmail wasn't particularly slimming. Inspired by this, she now spends her spare time asking famous people to dish about purchases which they initially loved—but ended up regretting, for Buyer's Remorse.

Although actress Kelly Rutherford starred in Melrose Place and Homefront and can currently be seen as Lily Van der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, she's carved out just as much of a place for herself in the fashion world. Rutherford sells her own handbags on QVC, gives shopping and style guidance on OpenSky and is a regular front row denizen at Fashion Week. (The actress always manages to put in appearances at just enough, but not too many Fashion Week shows.) Despite her innate sense of style and love of fashion, Kelly revealed to us that she had Buyer's Remorse over a certain revealing garment she once bought...

Racked: Can you tell us about a time you had Buyer's Remorse?

Kelly: I usually buy things that I can return—because there is always that moment where you get it home and think, "What was I thinking?" But there was a top that I bought that was kind of a mesh top. It was very sheer and you could wear a tank top or a bra underneath it, It was very unflattering.

Racked: What color was it?

Kelly: It was black, but it was not totally mesh like fishnets, but sheer, like stretchy. It showed way too much skin. The ones that look good in the store and you think, "Oh this is sexy," but then you put it on and go, "No."
