In the Topshop Tumblr's words, the British Fashion Council implemented the NEWGEN program in 1993 "to spot and support fledging [sic] designers as they get their careers off the ground." While it might be difficult to swallow that JW Anderson, Michael van der Ham, and Simone Rocha can be described as "fledgling," this is no time to get caught up in semantics. There are shows to sponsor! Topshop will finance runway shows for the three designers listed above as well as presentations for Christopher Raeburn, J.JS Lee, Lucas Nascimento, Marques Almeida, Nasir Mazhar, and Sister by Sibling and exhibition space costs for Palmer//Harding, Huishan Zhang, Lim Cooper and Sophia Webster.
Get excited for greatness, since Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, and Mary Katrantzou are examples of the designers who have come through the the program in the past. Also, this year's runway recipient JW Anderson has already signed on for a collab with the high street behemoth. Tit for tat.
