Banana Republic loves it some period dress. First they did that Mad Men capsule, and come the holidays, they'll jump back a century or two to Tolstoy's Russia. The capsule collection, which is set to debut in October, will anticipate the Anna Karenina movie's November release, and was curated and styled by the film's costume designer, Jacqueline Durran. Banana Republic creative director Simon Kneen told WWD that the film is a "different take on ‘Anna Karenina'" and Durrann says she incorporated the '50s influence of Dior's New Look. Historical with a twist: So maybe it's more like Mad Men than we thought.
Expect plenty of faux fur, pearls, hats, and richly colored fabrics. Prices will range from a $39.50 top to a $325 coat, and accessories hit the very affordable $29.50 for for jewelry to $250 for a handbag. Sadly there's no mention of full-on ball gowns a la the trailer above, but here's hoping for at least one top hat.
