The winners of the CFDA Awards were announced last night following the red carpet parade of fashion insiders that descended upon Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Considering that most of this year's nominees were the same as last year's, there were no major surprises in the winner's chair. Except, of course, for the night's host, Seth Myers, who cut the seriousness of the evening with a few memorable quips, including, "Fashion people like hating things more than they like liking things,” and "This fall on NBC tune into Karl Lagerfeld's 'Are You Fatter than a Fifth Grader?" before donning Marc Jacob's see-through lace Met Ball ensemble.
Anyway, here are the night's actual winners:
Womenswear Designer of the Year: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen of The Row
Menswear Designer of the Year: Billy Reid
Accessories Designer of the Year: Reed Krakoff
And these designers took home Swarovski Award for emerging talent:
Womenswear: Joseph Altuzarra (who said, "I dedicate my award to my boyfriend who has to deal with my mood swings.")
Menswear: Phillip Lim
Accessory Design: Tabitha Simmons
And as it turns out, Meyers wasn't the only comedian on hand. Reed Krakoff thanked his mother "for not letting [him] pursue [his] dream of being a football coach," and Joseph Altuzzura dedicated his award to his boyfriend, "who has to deal with [his] mood swings." All in all, we think CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg must have been pretty happy with the evening. In her words. "This is fashion's night to celebrate each other. It's a big party."
