As a part of CFDA's Fashion Incubator program, the new line-up of 12 designers has made the move to the New York space where they will be sketching, cutting, and draping for the next two years. The honor is a pretty huge deal if you're an emerging designer: In addition to the low-cost studio space, participants will attend seminars, network with industry insiders, and learn from mentors like Áslaug Magnúsdóttir of Moda Operandi. Here's the full 2012-2014 roster of participants:
Arielle Shapiro of Ari Dein
Reece Solomon and Max Stein of Reece Hudson
Ben and Doug Burkman of the Burkman Bros
Luis Fernandez of Number:Lab
Whitney Pozgay of Whit
Ricky Hendry & Marc Daniels of Isaora
Timo Weiland & Alan Eckstein of Timo Weiland
We stopped by the studio space today during an open house and spoke with Vosovic, who you may remember as the winner of Project Runway All-Stars. He says he's greatly benefiting from the program since arriving in May, and that it has helped him outline everything from his two-year strategy to defining his collection (he's going with "advanced contemporary," FYI.) "In three weeks, they ripped me open and put me back together again," he told us. While that sounds kind of painful, to be honest, it's worth remembering that Prabal Gurung and Bibhu Mohapatra were members of the first-ever selection last year, so it's bound to be worth the hurt.
