Selena Gomez on Selena the Original

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Elle has tapped Selena Gomez for their July issue (their first non-blond cover of the year, hooray!) and is teasing a few choice quotes from the cover story. Among them, this rather adorable one about how the original Selena, as played (you remember) by one very bootylicious Jennifer Lopez in the Selena biopic, influenced the Disney-star-turned-Justin-Bieber-heart-stealer at the age of five: "I made a bustier out of a bathing suit that I dyed black. I put glue and glitter all over it and I wouldn't take it off." Aw. Nowadays, of course, her bustiers are a tad fancier. Click over to Elle to see her writhing around in a whole slew of them.
