Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Banana Republic is debuting an unexpected collab in August: They're revamping Virgin Airline's flight crew uniforms. Or maybe it's not so unexpected considering BR's apparent desire to go back in time. In the words of Creative Director Simon Kneen, "We referenced the time when onboard style and sophistication was of utmost importance and designed a modern interpretation that incorporates aviation details and celebrates Virgin America's signature style." Trés Mad Men.

More than 1,200 flight crew members will model the new digs both on the runway (har har) and in the air, and—bonus—if you like what you see, you'll have the opportunity to purchase beginning August 7 via the airline’s "Red Shop" platform and in select Banana Republic stores. Because what are you going to do after you've watched your in-flight movie, read Fifty Shades of Grey (twice), and taken one of those awkward oops-stranger-I-didn't-mean-to-fall-asleep-on-your-shoulder-for-20-minutes naps? You're going to enjoy your complimentary beverage and shop, is what you're going to do.

Update: The actual uniforms won't be available for purchase, but the travel-inspired Banana Republic aviator sunglasses, trenches, tote, and messenger bag will be available. So feel free to look, but don't think just anyone can pull off the pencil skirt/collared shirt look.
