As creative director of Great Britain's Olympic team, Stella McCartney has designed 590 pieces of clothing for 900 athletes. The entire kit took two and a half years to develop, and came with a special kind of pressure for the designer: "You don't ever want someone to say, 'My clothes didn't function perfectly.' But at the same time, function has two meanings: they have to work at the performance level but they have to work to make someone feel good psychologically." [FT]
