Big shake ups are still happening on the Betsey Johnson front, and this time we're talking the good kind of shake up. After announcing earlier this week that she's be launching a dress line with the Levy Group, she has now brightened the prospect of New York Fashion Week by confirming she'll be there this year with a "retrospective" runway show.
So, where is she finding all those pieces from the '60s, '70s, and —her golden years—the '80s? From her Facebook fans. She's calling it BJ's Treasure Hunt, and when fans post photos of their own Betsy Johnson wares (specifically the Paraphernalia, Alley Cat, and Punk labels) two things happen: 1) the item will be considered for inclusion in her runway retrospective and 2) its owner be entered to win a ticket to the show (runners up get original artwork by BJ). What a way to ring in over 50 years of making fashion and a 70th birthday for the lady herself.
And speaking of birthday ch-ch-changes, Johnson posted a picture of a brand new 'do to her instagram signed "New hair for my 70th!!! XoX Betsey." This is BIG and UNPRECEDENTED since her choppy look hasn't changed since her early days.
