According to the Washington Post, Italian-born, French fashion designer Pierre Cardin designed an 800 foot modernist glass tower as a gift for Venice, but Venice ain't having it. Preservation group Italia Nostra said the Palace of Light skyscraper, which includes a fashion university, luxury hotel suites, and shops, "would squash the city's proportions" and would look like a "giant illuminated mushroom."
