Tory Burch, Gucci, and Derek Lam get their pleat on

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

One trend that's been impossible to miss in the pre-fall 2013 collections is the veritable parade of pleats we've seen. They're popping up in every shape and size and material imaginable. Drom Derek Lam's asymmetrical leather skirt to Tory Burch's delicate take on the classic accordion, designers are bringing vastly different perspectives to the trend and embracing a bit of ladylike tailoring. But don't get us wrong, these aren't the uniform kilts you remember from grade school. Ranging from pretty to punky, the season's pleats are packed with attitude. Take a peek after the jump.
