In 2009, Julian Hakes was architect. Then he saw his footprint in the sand one day, dreamed up a new shoe, and now he's a bona fide designer who's wares have been featured in Vogue, Elle UK, and now W Magazine. He explained the shoe's genesis:
The foot has its own inbuilt strength and support so why duplicate this. You would not have a jumper with rigid arms between elbow and wrist. I set to exploring this question in a similar way to how I would design a bridge, examining the forces and looking at the most simple, elegant yet poetic expression of the forces at play within the materials used."And boom, the modern sandal that Giovanna Battaglia pegged them as "perfect for the spring season" and "so futuristic" in the latest W Magazine. See the original shoe after the jump, as your terrified arches cry alone.
