For its fifth season, The Rachel Zoe Project has done what any great reality TV show does: Augments bumps-in-the-road into seemingly insurmountable obstacles for our entertainment. Last month it was revealed that Rachel Zoe's clothing line will only be sold online at Sak's, Bloomingdale's reduced their inventory, and Selfridges pulled the line altogether. Most analysts just called it growing pains; the Rachel Zoe Project calls it a story arch.
The trailer announces the struggle when one of Zoe's people tells her, "A lot of the pieces that go down the runway, don't do well on a retail floor." Then there's sound bites from husband Roger saying things like, "We just want to be commercially, you know, viable," "Yeah, this is not good," and, the drama packing, "The legitimacy of our company is really at stake." And finally the big one: He says "eye on the prize: sell clothes, sell clothes," and Zoe comes back with, "That's not what it's about." Nothing like marital disagreement to up the drama factor even more. But no matter the fate of Rachel Zoe's line, she's always got ShowDazzle.
