Breaking: Barneys Is Launching a Massive Discount Outlet Site

The online warehouse sale Barneys debuted last season was apparently just testing the waters for a permanent discount site. The brand has announced that they will be launching BarneysWarehouse.com, an outlet site featuring deeply discounted designer wares, on Monday, February 4, WWD reports.

Essentially, it sounds like Barneys is turning the temporary discount site into a permanent online outlet store, similar to Net-a-Porter's discount offshoot The Outnet. It will be used for liquidation of past-season sale items at discounts of up to 75% percent off, WWD reports, and will include women's wear, men's wear, children's wear and, the home line Chelsea Passage. A Barney's rep explains: "The warehouse sale is [a factory] outlet in the same way that Barneys.com is a flagship and should reflect the Madison Avenue location. "

Not everyone thought the first online warehouse sale measured up to the discounts and great rare finds that shoppers have come to expect from the physical sale. "So lame. same merch as the regular sale, nothing new and no further discounts. I don't get it??" one Racked commenter wrote.

Items available at the sale's launch last August included J Brand jeans for $89, Jil Sander wedges for $239, and Organic by John Patrick leather shorts for $239.

Last week, Barneys sent an email to customers announcing that the Warehouse Sale would be returning to the internet in February, but did not announce an official date. As with the first sale, they asked customers to sign up to receive alerts when the sale launches.

That sign-up form is still active on BarneysWarehouse.com, along with the following copy: "Want a heads up for the next Barneys Warehouse Sale? Sign up here and we'll send you an alert." Presumably those who have signed up will be the first to receive notification when the warehouse sale site launched on Monday.
