Following in Macy's Thanksgiving-dinner-ruining steps, JCPenney has announced that it will also kick off Black Friday a day early. Both stores will welcome shoppers at 8pm Thursday evening, reports the AP. They'll stay open through the night and all day Friday, finally shutting down at 9pm.

This is a real departure for the retailer, which opened in the early hours of Black Friday last year. Said Penney's executive VP of stores, "Obviously, we were one of the last to open [last year]. [But this year,] we're all in." Traditionalists may get up in arms about the move, but given concerns over what might be a "soft" holiday season, expect other retailers to follow suit.
