Cupcakes and Cashmere's Emily Schuman helms one of the most successful personal blogs out there thanks to her mix of artfully-photographed outfits, beauty tips, kitchen ideas and glimpses inside her spotless home in Los Angeles. One of Schuman's strongest areas of coverage is hair and makeup, a talent that landed her a plum deal with Estée Lauder.
Today, she reveals her day-to-day beauty strategy and go-to products on Into the Gloss. She also says that she first got the idea for Cupcakes and Cashmere when bored at work. Her first outlet: Yelp. "I started creeping online by doing restaurant reviews on Yelp and CitySearch," she admits. She launched her site in 2008. Although she's found success, it hasn't come without a few online haters and plenty of negative comments. "One of the first mean comments I got on my site—you always remember your first—was someone who said I had 'slutty eyebrows,'" she said. "I cried and called my friends saying, 'I had no idea my eyebrows were slutty!'" To un-slut them, she's been growing them out and filling them in with Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil in Neutral Blonde.
