Behemoth online retailer Amazon has struck a deal with the struggling US Postal Service to deliver packages on Sunday starting this week. The free service is only available in Los Angeles and New York at the moment, but next year, they'll roll out Sunday deliveries to more cities including Dallas, New Orleans, and Phoenix.
While Sunday delivery has been available during the holidays as well as through FedEx and other companies, this is the first time anyone has made it a free, unencumbered amenity for all customers, any time. As the shipping arms race continues, we're waiting to see if eBay and Walmart will offer Sunday delivery as well or up the ante.
